Laurel Schmidt has worked for thirty plus years in education as a teacher, principal, consultant, lecturer, professional development specialist, and writer. She thrived for 23 years in the classroom, teaching every grade K-8 before becoming a principal. She writes extensively about multiple intelligence theory, effective teaching practices, and the challenges of school leadership. She presents nationwide to parents, teachers, mentors, administrators, and school board members. She also conducts staff development for teachers and works with school districts and leadership associations.
Laurel is currently the Director of Pupil Services for the Santa Monica-Malibu School District and an adjunct professor at Antioch University’s Graduate School of Education. She is the author of Seven Times Smarter: 50 Activities, Games, and Projects to Develop the Seven Intelligences in Your Child (2001), Gardening in the Minefield; a Survival Guide for School Administrators (2002), and Classroom Confidential (2005).
Laurel will be presenting "Nurturing Teachers in Famine Culture" on June 15, 2007 as a part of the Summer Leadership Retreat.
