Steve Edwards, a former principal of East Hartford High School in Connecticut, is a nationally recognized, award-winning administrator noted for his innovative approach to school improvement. He is a 25-year veteran educator who spent 10 years as principal of East Hartford High School--one of the largest urban schools in Connecticut with a student population of over 2400. Employing learning communities processes, East Hartford High achieved increased graduation rates, improved standardized test scores, a 60% reduction in incidences of fighting, a 50% reduction in suspensions, and a reduction in the dropout rate. The school has also been recognized and awarded for their numerous school improvement achievements. Steve has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Connecticut. He has authored a number of articles on current educational issues and is co-author of the book Conflict Resolution: A Blue Print For Success, has an interview chapter in the recently published The Masters of Success (2006).
Dr. Edwards’ presentations and workshops have made him a highly demanded speaker and consultant. While the story of East Hartford High School and its successful turn-around is inspiring, Dr. Edwards also delivers clear-cut, practical strategies for leaders and schools that outline a path for success that have nationally been recognized by USA Today. His “voice of experience” lends credibility to his message. Steve currently teaches prospective administrators at The George Washington University’s Graduate School Of Education.
Dr. Edwards will be presenting "Data Collection, Analysis and Application as a Tool to Drive Student Performance" on June 14, 2007 as a part of the Summer Leadership Retreat.
