Arab Open University is working in seven Arab countries using a blended learning system of 25% face to face contact and 75% distant education. Mr. Babiker is responsible for monitoring and supervising execution of the program, course development, ongoing student assessment, and quality assurance procedures.        Brenda Bigland CBE, Lent Rise Combined School

Berks, England


Lent Rise Combined School is a large primary school recognized as one which serves a challenging community. It is a Nationally Outstanding Primary School and as a consequence is now a teacher training establishment involved in School Centred Initial Teacher Training. Mike Butler, Chief Executive, Djanogly City Academy

Nottingham, England

Djanogly City Academy is a highly recognized academy for its implementation of mobile computing, wireless networking solutions. and personalized learning. Mr. Butler is an honors graduate of Cambridge University and has spent two years on a MBA program in International Educational Leadership. For the past ten years he has traveled and addressed a wide range of audiences on Continuing Professional Development, school improvement and Information and Communications Technology. He has acted as a consultant for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, Toshiba and Microsoft and provided mentoring and coaching support for individuals and teams at a number of schools.   Tom Clark, Associate Director of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, England

Mr. Clark was formerly Principal and Chief Executive of George Spencer Foundation School and Technology College. While there, George Spencer School became a training and development agency government-designated “Recommending Body” accrediting the training of the new teachers and a “Leading Edge” program in sharing innovative and best practice with other schools on a national level. Tom co-authored the “developing leaders” programs which develop teachers to become school leaders and authored the program which prepares Deputy School Principals for the role of School Principals in England, Hong King and Australia.

    Steven Edwards, Educator, Author, Professor, and Trainer Alexandria, Virginia

A leader nationally recognized by USA Today for his innovative approach to education, Dr. Edwards successfully implemented numerous programs to improve student performance during his sixteen year tenure as a school administrator. In addition, Dr. Edwards is a nationally recognized keynote speaker, facilitator and trainer regularly featured as a content expert on television and radio with appearances on CNN on topics such as school safety, school climate and reform and strategic planning. Throughout his twenty-eight year professional career, Dr. Edwards has published numerous articles on school reform, and has authored a book, which outlines the implementation of the Student Assistance Center. In addition, Dr. Steven Edwards has served as the Vice President for the Children, Communities, and Youth Division of the National Crime Prevention Council in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw initiatives that focus on delivering a crime prevention message to America’s youth.

        Lucy Fisher, Principal, Lenah Valley Primary

Tasmania, Australia

Ms. Fisher’s educational career has been dedicated to enhancing student engagement and providing challenging learning for all students. Her 30 year career in education has been in schools, district office and head office.          Ashby Kilgore, Superintendent of Schools,

Newport News, Virginia

Dr. Kilgore has over 35 years of experience in public education as a teacher, principal, college professor and deputy superintendent. While serving as Chief of Strategic Planning and School Improvement, she led the implementation of the school district’s multifaceted plan to increase academic achievement for all students while closing the gaps in achievement among the student populations. In 2007 Dr. Kilgore was appointed superintendent and promotes smart, safe schools by building a foundation of high expectations, rigourous content and persistent support for students and teachers, using increased time for instruction, technology tools and literacy and mathematics coaches.

   Charles Marthinussen, Principal, Atlantis Secondary School Atlantis, South Africa

Mr. Marthinussen is the principal of the biggest school in South Africa serving a community of high unemployment and economic hardship. He has achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate in matriculation exams and the school is a source of pride for the town. Atlantis also recently won a National Award for the use of Technology in Enhancing Education. He has worked closely with Nelson Mandela and has developed a strong and active partnership with schools around the world.

David Perkins, Senior Professor of Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, Massachusettes

Dr. Perkins received his Ph.D. in mathematics and artificial intelligence from MIT. As a graduate student he was a founding member of Project Zero at Harvard and now serves as Senior Co-director Dr. Perkins has conducted long-term programs of research and development in the areas of teaching and learning for understanding, creativity, problem-solving and reasoning in the arts, sciences and everyday life. He has also studied the role of educational technologies in teaching and learning and has designed learning structures and strategies in organizations to facilitate personal and organizational understanding and intelligence. He is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles as well as a presenter and organizer for both national and international conferences.

    Graham Ranger, Director, The British School

New Delhi, India.

Mr. Ranger is the director of a private, non-profit, community school made up of international and “internationally-minded” families located in the heart of the diplomatic area of New Dehli. He works with a diverse staff of experienced international teachers and leaders. Mr. Graham has Mr.Graham has assisted in leading the school into one of the leading international schools where every student is being prepared for living and working in a global society.

Ken Walsh, Associate Director of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, England

Mr. Walsh, a former Technology College Head, has published practitioner research on ICT and School Leadership and on Leading and Managing the Future School. He is a memeber of the Trust’s CPD team and delivers Strategic Leadership in ICT programs for heads and leadership teams. He has a lead role in developing iNet China and has visited Chinese schools twice in the past year.

Yong Zhao, University Distinguished Professor, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan

A native of China, Dr. Zhao serves as the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology as well as the US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence. His research interest include diffusion of innovation, teacher adoption of technology, computer-assisted language learning, globalization and education and international education. He has published extensive articles in these areas. His current focus is on the impact of globalization on education and the integration of Eastern and Western educational practices.
